Interior design in Hampton Court

Interior design around Hampton Court is about balance: keeping the proportions, joinery and detail that make an old house special, and adding the comfort and practicality of a modern home. We plan layouts, colour, lighting, joinery and furniture as one scheme, and we know when to restore and when to add something new and quietly confident. You get full access to our trade discounts on everything we source. If you would rather lead the project yourself, an hourly design consultation gives you a clear direction and a list of what to buy and where. Every project begins with a consultation at home. We then develop mood boards, layouts and a full specification, choosing pieces and finishes that suit both the architecture and the way you live. We can then order and oversee everything.

Local homes

Homes in Hampton Court

Houses near the Green and Bushy Park are mostly eighteenth-century, with sash windows, classical doorcases and tall chimney stacks. Kent Town's 1860s villas are larger, in London stock brick and stucco. Along Bridge Road there are modest cottages beside Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian houses. High ceilings, original fireplaces and uneven walls all shape how a room should be designed and lit. Proportions that worked for formal Georgian life can feel stiff today, so we often reassign rooms rather than knock them about.

Local knowledge

Planning and local notes

Hampton Court sits across two councils. North of the river, the Hampton Court Green conservation area is in Richmond upon Thames and includes many listed Georgian buildings. South of the river, East Molesey's Bridge Road and Kent Town conservation areas are in Elmbridge. Listed building consent and conservation area controls are common here, so we confirm the status of the house and the right council before any design work starts.

FAQs

Questions we're asked

Can you modernise a listed house without harming its character?

Yes. We design so that new kitchens, bathrooms and lighting can sit within the existing fabric, and we work with the conservation officer where consent is needed. Many changes are reversible by design.

How do you light rooms with high ceilings and period cornicing?

With layers: table and floor lamps, wall lights and discreet joinery lighting rather than a grid of downlights cut into an original ceiling.

How much does an interior designer cost?

It's usually the first thing people ask, and we don't publish a figure, because it depends on the property and how much you want us to do. The full design service is priced per room and quoted as a fixed sum for the deliverables you've agreed. Everything we source goes through our trade accounts and the discounts are passed on to you, which on a larger project often offsets much of the design fee.

What does an interior designer actually do?

We design the room or the whole house: layout, finishes, lighting, joinery and furniture. You get a floorplan and moodboard, 2D visuals, a sample board of physical fabrics, flooring, wall finishes and tiles, 3D visuals, and a finish schedule listing every item and where to source it. Then we order it, take the deliveries and check what arrives. If the room needs building work, our architect prepares the planning and technical drawings and we can run the build.
